Why the Pregnancy Test Showing Positive but you’re not Pregnant??

If you have taken a home pregnancy test and a urine test showed two lines, would you consider that you are pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are very accurate and certainly more than 98% accuracy rate. However, you may have read or friends may have told their claims experience a positive pregnancy test but they are not pregnant. This situation is indeed confusing and leaves you wondering why it happened. Here are some reasons why the test can be positive even if you are not pregnant;

1. Fertility treatment. Injection of hCG or gonadotropins for example Pregynl or Pergonal used to trigger ovulation can cause a pregnancy test to be positive for weeks even if you are not pregnant.

2. Evaporation line. This occurs because the line that crosses the urine test to be evaporated and left the battle line. It is often interpreted as positive though non-pregnant women.

3. Make it incorrectly. Very important that you read the instructions before carrying out tests to ensure accurate test results. If the instructions state you should interpret the test in 3 minutes, you should comply with the directive. Interpret the test after the time appointed may give false results.

4. Medical problems. Tumors in the ovaries can give a positive reading even if women are not pregnant but this very rarely happens.

5. Drugs. Some drugs such as Methadone, chlordiazepoxide, or promethazine can give a false positive pregnancy test.

6. Chemical pregnancy. Basically you are pregnant, but you fall too early without you realizing it. This situation happens very often and if the test is positive you actually no longer pregnant.

7. Pregnancy test already expired. This can give false test results. Always check the expiry date before the test to ensure accurate results.

What you should do
If you are suspicious of your urine test results, see a doctor for a checkup. The doctor may do tests to detect pregnancy ultrasound. If it is still negative, your pregnancy may still be too early. Your doctor may recommend a blood test to detect the presence of hCG hormone, in the event of an increase, you are pregnant.
Alternatively you may wish to wait to make a urine test again after 1 week. If the test result is negative, you are not pregnant and vice versa.
